Wow....how did Anaheim ever let this kid go? He's a stud, I watched him live at the game when the Nucks beat the Leafs 6-2 last year, he was absolutely their best player!!
The only questions left is... whats the over under on how many norris trophies he will win .. 5? I guess it depends on when Rielly starts winning his - senstroll
I'll bet that he and Karlson, from Ottawa, will be competing for that trophy for years to come.

I still don't get why Anaheim did that trade. From watching them both play for the leafs I honestly think Gardiner at 21 is already better than Beauchemin at 30.
I think the trade was supposed to be the leafs get Gardiner in exchange for taking the useless salary of Lupul. Nobody expected Lupul to come back from that injury and play as good as he has.
Also Anaheim didn't think Schultz would screw them over. So they figured they still had a blue chip defence prospect.

Remember Lupul was a salary dump, he wasn't playing well, the compensation was Gardiner I guess?

Him and Schultz gone, Bobby Ryan most likely going to be traded.
Perry and Getzlaf most likely hitting free agency...
Safe to say that organization is in deep trouble in a season or 2.

If this season does not get off the ground, Getzlaf and Perry will be UFA's. They won't even get a chance to negotiate with them, before they hit UFA. Yes, they are in trouble and they're going to soon be bottom feeders and will become another problem franchise, that will require more revenue sharing..........where have we heard this before?

They are going to be in a world of hurt. If they can't resign Perry and Getzlaf they need to trade them and get assets back in return. They can't afford to lose those two for nothing. There would definitely be a bidding war for each of them. Glad we got Shultz for nothing from them though.

With Lindholm (18 year old beast) Fowler and so on in the pipe they're still in good shape, though obviously added Gardiner and Schultz and they'd be laughing to the bank. Sbisa is decent too.

I'm not saying they're coming to Toronto but I can't see why Getzlaf and Perry would stay. If they leave Anaheim will have lost Getzlaf,Perry,Schultz,Gardiner and Lupul with only Beauchemin coming back. I also expect that Selanne will retire so u can add him too the list. Even with all that talent leaving, they can still get a huge return for Ryan and add to Lindholm, Smith-Pelly,Fowler,Etem,Palmieri,Holland,karlsson,vatanen,friberg. That's a very impressive list considering what they lost.

So Cal women are weird, Perry might leave but Getzlaf lives there year round and raises his family there. They've done well not rushing their players.

Good for the Marlies, at least there is some for of Leaf hockey to follow. Glad to see guys like Gards/Kadri starting to lead the charge. There better be a season.......Leafs have a better shot at one of the solid prospects in this draft class with how poop they'll be this season than the odds of a lottery.

Not so sure why people think the Leafs are going to be horrible this year. The Leafs are good(or bad enough) to finish 7th-11th in the conference which will hurt our draft position. The Leafs have a lot to gain from the season being canceled, aside from all the money they wouldve made but as a fan that doesn't concern me. Let's say, we got a top five pick, conelly and lombardi come off the books, kadri gardiner rielly continue to develop. Screw the season, I'll enjoy the Marlies this season and watch the Leafs reap the benefits of a cancelled season in the offseason.

Why because they get 3 ball in a draft( if they follow last time)? There is also no guarantee that they draft top 5. Last time only one of the team with 3 balls got a high pick. The others dropped to the late teens/ early 20.

The reason people think the Leafs will be horrible this season is because they have been horrible for almost a decade now. I see why people think they will be horrible, the question is why do people think this will change? Its essentially the exact same team as last years poop team, with a schenn/jvr trade off.
How will the Leafs be reaping any benefits from a cancelled season? Thats absurd. What logic are you using to back this up?

The Leafs have a better shot at #1 if they play a season. Honestly, I don't see how this Leafs team finishes anywhere except 14/15 in the east.

The only thing I can think of is that they had some dead weight contracts gone...
AND Anaheim won't be able to trade Perry and Getzlaf... maybe Burke can pursuade one of them to come to Toronto as a UFA?
